Carbon Tips

Wind power is a great renewable energy resource

Reduce your carbon footprint. Buy low carbon and carbon neutral products from LowCO2 and NoCO2 certified businesses and become carbon neutral certified.

Help solve climate change and preserve our nature

Reducing your carbon footprint, purchasing carbon credits and becoming carbon neutral certified are the most effective measures your business can take to lower its carbon footprint.

Climate change tips for business

Making it easy for organisations to recognise and calculate their carbon footprint and take action on climate change is the core of our business. By following a few simple guidelines, you can effectively lower your business’s climate change impact. We encourage businesses to implement carbon reduction measures such as:

Become carbon neutral

Waste management and recycling

  • Minimise waste – consider the environment before printing; print double sided, and re-use paper as scrap paper before throwing it out
  • Bring your own mug to work and bring lunch rather than buying takeaway dishes

Implement a recycling policy in your office. Learn how to do it by downloading our guide to implementing a recycling policy.

Energy efficiency, office appliances and lights

  • Use lights in the office efficiently. Switch lights off when you are leaving the room. You can also install motion sensors in your office so that the lights turn off automatically when a room isn’t occupied.
  • Turn off your computer or set it to power saving mode when you are leaving your desk – even if it's only for a few minutes
  • Use all appliances efficiently, including kitchen appliances and the air conditioner.
  • Install energy saving light bulbs in your office. The Carbon Reduction Institute provides light bulb fit-outs, including downlights, for a discounted price. To get a quote for our energy efficiency light bulb program please contact us
  • Switch to green power. It is not more expensive than a non-green power plan and reduces your footprint drastically. An online instant comparison of different gas and electricity plans in Australia, including green power, can be found on the Artog website.
  • Install solar panels on your roof. You might even be able to feed power back into the grid and receive a cheque from the energy company at the end of the month! The Carbon Reduction Institute might be able to help you subsidise your solar installation. Please visit our solar pages for more information or contact us for a quote.

Travel less

  • Use public transport, ride a bike or walk to work if possible
  • Carpool with other employees if you live close to each other
  • If you have access to underground parking at work, try to use the stairs rather than the lift
  • Avoid business related air travel. Only fly if it is absolutely necessary.
  • Offset your flight if you have to travel
  • Videoconferencing is a cheap and environmentally friendly alternative to flying. Consider carbon neutral videoconferencing as alternative to your business related travel.

Invest in clean, renewable energy

Solar energy
With an average of 7.5 sun hours per day during the summer months, Australia is one of the sunniest countries in the world. This means solar panels can provide Australians with clean, renewable energy.  We might be able to subsidise the cost for installing your own solar system. Visit our solar page or contact us for a quote today.
