Carbon Credit Creation Consultancy

As experienced greenhouse abatement and carbon credit creation project consultants we would love to hear from you if you have an opportunity that you believe can reduce the emission of carbon and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. We will be happy to explain the processes involved in turning this opportunity into a registered abatement project.

We have experience with a wide range of Greenhouse Gas Abatement Projects and Schemes including the NSW Government’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme (GGAS) and the Federal Government’s Greenhouse Friendly™ Scheme. We can also assist in the development for international projects under the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) or the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
The Carbon Reduction Institute is always interested in assisting you to create carbon credits through any prospective Greenhouse Gas Abatement Project. Please contact us for more information.

NSW GGAS

The NSW Greenhouse Gas Reduction Scheme (GGAS) commenced in 2003 and is one of the first mandatory Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Schemes in the world. GGAS mainly targets emissions associated with electricity. That means projects to reduce emissions from electricity through efficient usage or cleaner production are accredited under the GGAS scheme. The Carbon Reduction Institute is accredited to run projects under the GGAS scheme including the distribution and installation of energy efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, water efficient showerheads and the replacement of electric hot water systems with gas systems. Greenhouse Friendly™

The Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative was launched by the Australian Federal Government in 2001. It is a mechanism for companies to offer carbon neutral goods and services to customers by offsetting the emissions produced from the manufacture use and disposal of products and services using Greenhouse Friendly™ certified carbon credits. The depth of detail used to account for the emissions of these products and services is similar to the NoCO2 accreditation program; however Greenhouse Friendly™ certification requires more 3rd party verification and paperwork, thus taking longer and costing more.

The offsetting of these products and services creates demand for Greenhouse Friendly™ carbon credits from accredited Greenhouse Friendly™ abatement projects. The rules for accreditation of these projects are drawn from the rules governing Kyoto Protocol compliant greenhouse credits and must result in additional, permanent and verifiable greenhouse emission reduction. The Carbon Reduction Institute can assist you in applying for Greenhouse Friendly™ certification for your organization or abatement programme. Clean Development Mechanism

One of the goals of the Kyoto Protocol was to encourage attempts to reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in developing countries. To implement this goal the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) was created. CDM projects are activities that act to produce a reduction in greenhouse emissions (or an increase in abatement). These include forest planting energy efficiency measures or the introduction of renewable energy in a developing country. CDM credits are called CERs and are accredited by the UN (specifically the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change). These credits can be bought by Annex 1 countries to help meet their obligations under the Kyoto Protocol.

The Carbon Reduction Institute is able to help projects through the CDM accreditation process. To gain CERs a project must be in a non Annex 1 country (as per the Kyoto Protocol) and be able to prove financial and environmental additionality. Due to the stringent system in place through the UNFCCC for the creation of these credits the process takes at least 12 months.
