LowCO2 Business

A LowCO2 certified business has reduced its carbon emissions by a certain percentage from the baseline set by the initial carbon audit. The percentage reduction inside the logo shows the climate change action a business has taken.

LowCO2 certified businesses can offer their customers the choice to make the products they buy from them carbon neutral at the point of sale.

LowCO2 Certification Standard

LowCO2 certification

The LowCO2 certification standard is designed for companies who wish to communicate a percentage reduction in their carbon footprint. The LowCO2 logo displays the percentage reduction so that consumers have clarity regarding the emission reductions achieved by the company. LowCO2 certification is metered through an engineering audit  and emissions monitoring plan.

Carbon Emissions Audit

A comprehensive emissions audit is fundamental to any claim of carbon reduction. The audit quantifies the greenhouse gas emissions from scope 1 and scope 2 emissions sources, as well as emissions from waste and work related employee travel.  The engineering audit quantifies the total emissions impact from these sources and forms a baseline which allows your company to choose its desired percentage reduction level. For example, if the audit revealed a carbon footprint of 5000 Tonnes of greenhouse gas, then meeting a limit of 4000 tonnes would make the company 20% LowCO2. Similarly, if they met a limit of 2500 tonnes, then the company would be 50% LowCO2.

The audit is written in strict accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard which is the world's most widely used and recognised greenhouse gas accounting tool.  The chart below is adapted from the GHG Protocol and displays these emissions sources.

Reducing and Offsetting Emissions

In the example above, if the company decided to commit to meeting an emissions level of 4000 Tonnes, then they would be 20% LowCO2 certified. Once a carbon reduction committment like this is made, we require the company to engage in an emissions monitoring process to ensure that it doesn't exceed this pledged figure.

Upon becoming LowCO2 certified, you will be able to display the LowCO2 certification logo and offer 'Make it Carbon Neutral' products and services.

Carbon Reduction Tip:

Choose a less polluting car – fuel-efficiency is cheaper and saves up to 20 tonnes of greenhouse gas and $10.000 on fuel over its lifetime. Diesel is generally less polluting than petrol.

Drive cars efficiently: Drive smoothly and avoid start-stop traffic.

Remove unnecessary weight from your car as well as unused roof racks and other features which create more air drag. More tips here!
